The currency changed in 2025.The Caribbean Guilder (XCG) replaced the Netherlands Antillean Guilder (ANG). USD is accepted almost everywhere. You'll often get change in XCG even if you pay in USD.

Papiamentu is the local language.English and Dutch are widely spoken in tourist areas, but learning a few Papiamentu phrases ("Bon bini" = welcome, "Danki" = thank you, "Dushi" = lovely/sweet) goes a long way with locals.

Sunscreen matters, a lot.Curaçao is just 12° north of the equator. The UV index is extreme. Apply SPF 30+ before leaving your room, reapply after swimming, and wear a hat if you're spending long time at remote beaches with little shade.

How to reach them without a rental car

Most of this list is spread across the island rather than clustered in one place, which is what catches people out. Christoffel Park and the Westpunt beaches are 45 minutes to an hour from Willemstad; Mambo Beach and Jan Thiel are 20 to 30 minutes; Punda and Otrobanda you can walk between.
