When the sun goes down, the island keeps going. Kumbai gets you there and home again — no driving, no parking, no worries.
Every Thursday from 6 PM, the historic streets of Punda light up for Punda Vibes — live Tumba and Tambú music on every corner, folkloric dancers in the squares, street food, craft stalls, and the whole UNESCO old town wide awake after dark. It's free, it's local, and it happens every single week.
Then, right at 8:15 PM, the sky over Handelskade explodes into fireworks. Watch from the waterfront with the crowd, or do what the locals do — head up to Cascada Rooftop beforehand and watch the whole show unfold beneath you, glass in hand.
Once the fireworks fade, Punda doesn't stop — and neither does Cascada. The rooftop shifts into its late-night mode, DJ set going, infinity pool glowing under string lights, 360° views of Willemstad all around you. It's the single best Thursday night on the island, and it only works if you're not the one driving.
Book your Thursday night ride →You'll cross these, walk these, and photograph these — here's what they actually mean.
Built in 1888, this floating pontoon walkway connects Punda and Otrobanda across St. Anna Bay — and it moves. When a ship needs to pass, the entire bridge swings open on its own pontoons, and if you're walking across when the bell rings, you just ride along for the trip. Locals call her the Swinging Old Lady, and she's still one of the most photographed bridges in the Caribbean.
Opened in 1974, this is the tall arched bridge you'll spot from almost anywhere in Willemstad — one of the highest bridges in the Caribbean, built so tall that even the largest cruise ships can pass beneath it into the harbor. Cross it by car for a dramatic, sweeping view over the whole city and the sea beyond — it's the drive that makes you realize how genuinely beautiful this island is.
In Wilhelminaplein, right in the heart of Punda, giant letters spell out CURAÇAO and DUSHI — the island's unofficial motto. "Dushi" means sweet, lovely, good — it's what you call your favorite food, your partner, or just a really good day. No trip is complete without a photo here, and it's a five-minute walk from Queen Emma Bridge.
No stock-photo island — this is the actual turquoise water, colorful streets, and coastline you'll be riding to.
